“More humpbacks sighted off New York City coastline”

Old sea captains cannot remember ever seeing greater numbers of humpback whales approaching New York City. The skyscrapers of Manhattan can be seen from the whale watching boats observing the magnificent humpbacks out in the Atlantic Ocean. In 2014 alone there were 87 occasions when humpbacks were sighted and at least 19 different humpbacks have been identified. The marine mammal population in the area of New York City is monitored by Gotham Whale and Paul Sieswerda of that organization has said that reports of humpback whales began to pick up in 2010 from surprised fishermen and other veterans on the water.
